Looking for work that is both challenging and dynamic?
As a Human Factors consultant at HSI® you might be interviewing radar operators at sea on a naval frigate; reviewing scientific articles on trust in small teams; developing industrial process control displays or software models of automation options; or creating a 3D simulation of a new work layout.

Are you attracted to this sort of variety and responsibility? Do you like to travel? Are you up for the project planning and preparation that goes with such projects. Could you write and present your findings to clients who need reliable, practical, objective but easy to understand answers for their high risk jobs?
If your answers are "Yes", then likely you'd enjoy a career at HSI®.

Do you have a mind that never seems to stop, constantly curious? Can you multi-task to deadlines? Do you have a good background in scientific method - including statistics and study design? Do you have attention to detail? Do you want a lifetime of learning about new things? Are you a team player, willing to do what it takes to find the best solution for your HSI® clients?
If, again, your answers are "Yes", then the HSI® team will welcome you.

At HSI®, we're a tight-knit group of professionals, organised in small teams, who apply our knowledge and skills using leading-edge techniques, to unique and interesting projects in high risk sectors. Our workplace is friendly and informal. We encourage HSI® Human Factors staff to share ideas about work-in-progress and to develop new areas. You will develop your own personal annual Professional Development program with your Team Leader.

Our consultants need more than Human Factors skills. HSI® Human Factors consultants need a strong base in scientific method. You will also need to bring or acquire skills in project management and business development. You must be able to organise and communicate your thoughts in writing and as a presenter. You must be ready to acquire or bring a thorough understanding of more than one application sector so you can interact effectively with people in those sectors.

Our main office is located in Guelph, Ontario. We also have satellite offices in Ottawa, Ontario and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Guelph is a great place to live and is located just 100 km west of Toronto, and within easy reach of Hamilton, Kitchener/Waterloo, Mississauga and Oakville. This old and rapidly growing city is home to the University of Guelph, a leader in Canadian research. Guelph has many old buildings and parks, and a strong arts community, including a new performing arts centre, the River Run Centre. The city hosts several music festivals each year. For more information, visit: www.guelph.ca.

HSI® offers a competitive salary and benefits package and we are looking for both entry-level and senior consultants.

Requirements for specific Human Factors career positions vary but you must have a background in a field closely related to Human Factors. For entry level or new graduate positions, this includes a major or minor degree in any of the following subjects (Master's level preferred).

  • Psychology (cognitive, perceptual, social, organizational)
  • Engineering (industrial, mechanical, software, systems design) + a Human Factors minor
  • Kinesiology (anthropometry, biomechanics, physiology)
Experience in an application sector such as Defence, Emergency Services, Transportation or Process Control would be an asset.

For a Senior Human Factors Consultant position (Master's level required), Human Factors project management experience (PMP preferred) and relevant industry sector and business development experience and skills will be preferred.
