Senior Human Factors Consultant Soldier Systems
Dave brings twenty years experience of Human Factors consulting. He recently led a team from HSI® on a $5-million Canadian Defence Research project to determine Soldier Information Requirements (SIREQ) for dismounted infantry soldiers in 2010. This Technology Demonstration (TD) conducted trials to evaluate the potential of different technologies to enhance performance in command, target acquisition and situational awareness. Dave now leads another TD project to develop a Soldier Integrated Helmet System. This helmet system will incorporate SIREQ findings on technologies such as night vision devices, navigation and way finding aids, communication equipment and situational awareness displays.
Other projects include research, development, trials and evaluation of clothing, weapons and equipment for the Canadian and the British army and the U.S. Marines. Examples include design of personal ballistic protection; commercial helmet options; new personal load carriage equipment; commercial howitzer options; prototype cold wet weather clothing ensembles; chemical biological protective clothing; and army field headquarters modules based on ISO (International Standard) containers.
Work in other sectors includes firefighter performance and response team size; repetitive lifting; ambulance patient handling, airport check-in desks; and work site design in manufacturing, office and library settings. Dave has also participated in the development and presentation of training for industrial engineers, union leaders, safety managers, and accident investigators at the Canadian Transportation Safety Board.
Dave has a B.Sc and M.Sc. from the University of Guelph with specialisation in human factors, ergonomics, biomechanics, anthropometry, and work physiology. He is a Member of the Association of Canadian Ergonomists, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, the Intelligent Transportation Society of Canada, the Project Management Institute and a Certified Human Factors Professional (BCPE).
