- Airport Check-in Stations
Human factors design input and prototype design assessments for work station layout for passenger check-in stations and call centre work stations at airports in Toronto, Calgary, New Brunswick, Montreal and Vancouver.
- Air Traffic Control Datalink Systems
Assessed ability of Datalink (digital uplink of data to an aircraft) service to meet user requirements. Assessment used to design a Datalink operator interface design for air traffic controllers. Conducted user trials to improve interface design.
- Ballistic Protective Vest
A series of studies to investigate Human Factors issues, determine user requirements for typical combat and peacekeeping tasks and threats, develop concept designs and conduct field trials to evaluate designs for a protective ballistic vest for army use.
- University Library Layout
Layout design for two floors (150 staff and 55 thousand square feet) and the circulation desk of the library at a major Canadian university. Analysis of organizational needs, space layout requirements, configuration of individual workstations, access for people with disabilities, and preparation of CAD drawings.
- Nuclear Generating Station Control Room Displays
Human Factors design input for computer-based display system for the central control room of a nuclear power plant. This included analysis of the annunciation system, analysis and design of display suite navigation, input to database design, design of an integrated keyboard/trackball interface, analysis of emergency and normal operation procedures, design and rapid prototyping of graphical displays.
- Air Ambulance Communication Centre
Layout, staffing, information flow of a busy air ambulance communication centre for route planning and dispatch. Layout and procedural changes to improve performance, efficiency and working conditions.
- Air Ambulance Layout for Telemedicine
Investigated telemedicine requirements, analysed critical tasks and air ambulance layout for paramedics to report vital signs on a patient en-route to a hospital and to carry out emergency medical procedures while under the remote direction of a ground-based emergency room physician. Interviewed paramedics, physicians, medical escorts.
- Nuclear Generating Station Safety System
Upgrade of a safety system from a hard-wired control system to a PLC-fed digital control system. Prepared Human Factors program plan. Conducted task, error, and physical demands analyses. Undertook interface design, review, and validation activities. Conducted liaison with operators, maintainers and designers.
- Ballistic Protective Eyewear
A series of studies to investigate Human Factors issues, determine user requirements for typical combat and peacekeeping tasks and threats, develop concept designs and conduct field trials to evaluate designs for a protective combat visor system for army use.
- Soldier Integrated Headwear System
Four year Technology Demonstration program to investigate, develop and compare different concept designs. The system will integrate leading edge technologies in computer supported vision and hearing, advanced sensor systems, and personal protection. Uses computer modeling and simulation to understand user needs.
- Patrol Pack, Rucksack and Tactical Assault Vest
A series of studies to investigate Human Factors issues, determine user requirements, provide input to concept designs, and conduct user field trials for an integrated infantry patrol pack, rucksack, and tactical assault vest for dismounted infantry use, compatible with existing clothing and equipment.
