Human Factors Consultant (one position)

Humansystems® Incorporated is a human factors consulting firm located in Guelph, Ontario that undertakes research and development projects for a range of government and industrial clients in Canada, primarily Defence.  We have approximately twenty full time professional consultants (many with graduate degrees) and several Associates who provide advice on a project-by-project basis.  A small administration team co-ordinates proposals and billing and provides data and clerical support.

Your main responsibility will be to assist in ongoing Human Factors work under the direction of a project manager. Projects may range from field trials of clothing and equipment to decision-making studies. Application areas include the military, transportation, emergency services and industrial process control.

You will participate in tasks such as:

  • Conducting literature searches.
  • Designing and developing data capture instruments such as questionnaires.
  • Undertaking task analyses.
  • Data capture, analysis and report writing.
  • Using modelling software such as Micro-Saint or IPME.
  • Attending field trials at various project sites.

Qualifications / Experience
Recent Master's or Bachelor's degree in Applied Kinesiology, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Engineering, Organizational or Industrial Psychology, or an engineering degree with a strong Human Factors, Psychology or Kinesiology minor. Work experience in applied research and experience and/or a qualification in project management is an advantage.

Compensation / Conditions
HSI® offers a competitive salary and benefits package. HSI® staff work full time in Guelph, Ontario, but travel frequently within Canada and occasionally to the U.S. or Europe. You should enjoy working to deadlines in small multi-disciplinary groups. You must be willing to be away from home on field studies lasting from 1-3 weeks 2-3 times/year; and on outdoor studies in a range of settings and to obtain any security clearance needed for work on military projects or nuclear energy projects.
