HSI® project teams have completed literally hundreds of projects in many different industry sectors working alone or with specialists in other areas. HSI® projects typically combine knowledge (or research) about human characteristics with analysis of the tasks required by a particular system or product. The goal is better integration of people, performance and technology.
Lessons learned by HSI® consultants from a project in one industry sector can often help with similar challenges in other sectors. This lets HSI® Human Factors consultants add value to clients across different sectors.
Take a textbook example.
Research to make the control levers in an aircraft cockpit less confusing by standardising lever shape and layout spacing can be tailored to apply to other settings such as controls for mining machinery, locomotives, earth moving equipment, racing cars, and ships' bridges. This is because the common element in all these applications is the human user.
When comparing HSI®'s project experience to your needs, look for where our consultants have worked in a similar sector or on a similar human factors application in a different sector.
For instance:
- Much of what we learned about performance challenges for infantry soldiers working at night can apply to firefighting teams (and vice-versa).
- How we analyse human information display requirements for naval radar operators can apply to naval sonar operators, air traffic controllers, industrial process control, transport control centres and security surveillance.
- What we have learned about minimising lifting hazards in wholesale food warehouses can apply to lifting hazards anywhere.
